Creating safe streets in every community
Portland is known as a city with great transit, cycling, and walking–yet not every community has safe access to all these choices. Many people across the region do not own a car and rely on transit, biking, and walking to get around.

Despite our reputation, our streets have become increasingly unsafe–we’ve seen record traffic deaths in recent years. These changes have occurred under new City Council leadership and as budget deficits have emerged with fewer people commuting to work generating lower gas taxes.

In this webinar, we will focus on why traffic deaths have increased, and what steps we need to take to make our city streets safe for everyone. The panel includes Metro Councilor Ashton Simpson, Bike Portland's Jonathan Maus, and former Executive Director of Oregon Walks and Community Cycling Center Steph Routh.

    Helping People Experiencing Houselessness

We all want to live in a community where everybody has a safe place to call home. Yet, thousands of families and individuals are living without stable housing after decades of under investment affordable housing and the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. As headlines and public attention have focused on addressing the homelessness crisis, it’s become hard to know what policies actually make a difference. In this webinar we hear from experts doing the work on the ground about what programs are truly effective, and how we can address this crisis with real and long lasting solutions. Panelists included: Portland State Associate Professor Dr. Marisa Zapata, Housing Advocate Shannon Singleton and Street Roots Executive Director Kaia Sand.
